Sharing best-practice in Geoscience teaching and learning

GeoHub team of teaching staff

The University of Liverpool CPD Course for A Level Geology teachers has run since 1987 and is the longest running and most successful CPD course of its type available in the UK. The theme of the course and invited speakers changes every 2 years. This two-day course is accredited by the Geological Society of London and takes place every year at our award-winning £24 million Central Teaching Laboratory.

Come to one of our CPD courses!

Our CPD course is specifically designed for teachers and focuses on ideas suitable for supporting the teaching of A-level Geology. The course themes are aligned with examination specifications, and the course content is delivered through seminars and hands-on practical sessions. Our lecturers provide insight into their current research activities and recent discoveries in Geology and provide practical resources to aid and support the teaching of A-Level Geology. We provide practical sessions and/or fieldwork activities that can be used by teachers in their own classes. We also provide opportunities for discussion of good practice and share teaching ideas, helping to build and support a strong Teachers Network of A Level Geology Teachers.

Teachers are provided with:

  • A course folder containing hard copies of course presentations, practical &/or fieldwork activities, and worksheets that can be used in schools/ colleges.
  • A USB stick with electronic copies of course folder materials and teaching resources (including worksheets, photographs, photomicrographs, maps, video clips).
  • A certificate of attendance.
