This resource is a PowerPoint presentation produced by Prof Dan Faulkner for the Earth Science Teachers’ Association Conference which was hosted by the School of Environmental Sciences at the University of Liverpool in September 2024. It explains how industries needed for the green transition (e.g. geothermal, CCS) rely on injection into the subsurface leading inevitably to induced seismicity. It also explains how geoscientists can use physics-based models to forward model earthquake behaviour and reproduce many characteristics of measured natural and induced seismicity.
