This is a school and college-level activity to model lava flows in the laboratory or classroom using golden syrup as an analogue for lava. This relatively simple approach can provide insights into what controls how far and fast lavas flow and allows us to build understanding which can be used to mitigate lava flow hazards and help to reduce the risks of volcanic eruptions.
