Field work techniques
Geological fieldwork techniques are shown in 16 video clips
featuring undergraduates demonstrating their fieldwork skills at
different field exposures. These students show how to use field
equipment correctly and stress how to carry out field work safely.
Fieldwork skills
The examples of fieldwork skills demonstrated include identifying
geological structures in the field, making and recording
observations, producing field sketches, using a compass clinometer
and constructing graphic logs.
Fieldwork resources
Geological fieldwork resources are included to help you to develop
your skills in keeping a systematic record of activities carried out in
the field. There resources include information sheets that can be
printed off as field recording sheets or to be used as aide-memoires.
There are also links to virtual fieldwork sites and to sites where there
are self-study packages on fieldwork safety, information about field
sketching and details of sampling techniques used in fieldwork.
