Lithification Cement D To show different types of cement Red sandstone, orthoquartzite, sandstone with calcite cement. To show cement D 12  5cm polystyrene balls glued together with araldite   Making rock D or P 5 min To show how "rock" can be made from hard water and sand 1) For a demonstration fill a bucket or 2 litre jug with sand. Place penny in sand and then add hard water and leave. 2)For students. Plastic cups full of slightly muddy fine sand. Students add hard water and stick a penny in.  This is left for several days by which time is will be solid. Compaction  E P F 30 min Students are given beakers of sediment of different grain sizes which they try to compact either by shaking or by pressure.
